Enhancing Tuas South’s Road Network for Future Industrial Growth
LTA’s Plan to Improve Connectivity as Singapore’s Container Port Activities Expand
To support the ongoing industrial developments in Tuas South and the consolidation of Singapore’s container port activities at Tuas over the next decade, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) will begin enhancing the road network in the area. These improvements include the construction of the Tuas Road Viaduct (Phase 2) (TRV2), which extends the existing Tuas Viaduct, along with additional road enhancement projects along Tuas South Avenue 3, Tuas South Boulevard, Pioneer Road, and Tuas South Avenue 5. Work is set to begin in 2025.
As the enhancements progressively conclude from 2030, motorists can expect improved connectivity and shorter travel times in the region. Together, the existing Tuas Viaduct and the upcoming TRV2 will strengthen the link between the major expressways in the north—namely, the Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) and Pan Island Expressway (PIE)—and industrial estates and Tuas Port in the south.
LTA has announced that tenders for the projects will be progressively called starting in the third quarter of 2024.
Land Acquisition
To facilitate the construction of TRV2 and related roadworks, the government will acquire nine part-lots of private land. These lots are spread across seven properties owned by JTC and currently leased to private companies. However, the acquisition will involve only ancillary features, such as boundary walls and fencing, and will not affect existing buildings or operations.
The Singapore Land Authority (SLA) has officially gazetted the acquisition of the affected land today. Both SLA and LTA will collaborate closely with the affected parties to assist them through the acquisition process.
